Priority and Funding
The project funding is from the Finance Programme budget.
The project has currently been agreed to be priority two.
Impact and Dependencies
eFinancials database migration and disaster recovery improvements
eFinancials and related applications which use the eFinancials database are in daily use by a large number of staff in all departments throughout the university.
The current support arrangements for e-expenses lapses in August and any testing with the new migrated database must be completed before then.
Potential improvements to disaster recovery arrangements now available due to the database migration will be considered by the project.
single signon/Launchpad
This is a new service which Finance are keen to investigate. This project will deliver a prototype service only, together with reccomendations for the best approach to deliver a production service.
The goal of the Finance SSO prototype is to investigate the back end technology stack that is used to run Launchpad. The prototype will be constructed on a set of development VMs running separately from the infrastructure that runs the Finance applications. Using these development VMs will give us flexibility and allow us to resolve any issues that arise quickly.
Building the prototype will allow us to document the architecture and build process, which will remove the unknowns associated with deploying the new technology and will allow us to make confident estimates for deploying Launchpad onto the Finance environments.
supplier self-service portal
This is a new application which Finance are keen to offer to their suppliers. It will be delivered into each environment after each database migration is completed. As it provides a new service the database migration signoff does not depend upon the successful implementation of this application.
decomissioning of old services and servers
The strategy for this will be agreed with Finance and carried out after the other objectives ( excluding the single sign on/Launchpad work) have been met.
