Background

The current ECA induction process is ad-hoc and each time the recruiting manager needs to generate an induction plan and source material for their particular area. There is no consistency in how inductions are conducted across the school and no guidance on which resources new starts should be directed to for their role.

The project will make identification and augmentation of induction plans much more efficient.

 

Scope

The project will work with subject matter experts from across ECA to identify induction resources (both core and specific), produce an inventory and to tag with relevant data such as resource owner, resource audience.  The project will also attempt to identify where possible gaps in the provision of induction material and identify a resource owner responsible for the generation and maintenance of such new material

To design a structure/model for all induction resources in ECA that will allow new starts to easily find, or be directed to, content relevant to their role.  In this respect new starts can include individuals new to the University or with respect to existing staff individuals new to a particular post.

To assist in the implementation of the structure and the generation of longer term recommendations, through the tools that are available i.e. checklists, intranet and to recommend a process for the on-going maintenance of the new structure.

Will help ensure that inductions include all mandatory induction elements specific to the ECA and also more generic elements with respect to the University as a whole.

Out of Scope

Content and management of induction material not specific to ECA.  Where appropriate the project would provide links to relevant generic induction material but the management of such material would be outside the remit of this project.

O2 To  evaluate the options available that could deliver an improved integrated induction process across the ECA and produce scoping report

Scoping report to contain a set of improvements that can be undertaken to improve the induction process.  These will include initial improvements that can be undertaken within the timescales of the project as well as longer term actions to continuously improve and manage the ECA induction process.

D3.1

Scoping plan that provides a design for the implementation of  the issues addressed in the scoping report and provides a framework for the transition to BAU and the ongoing management of these actions within the ECA induction process.
