Overview

Background

The aim of this project is to undertake the migration of the SAGE application managed by the Careers Service from an older version of ColdFusion to the new ColdFusion 9 infrastructure. The old version of ColdFusion are no longer supported by Adobe.

The migration of SAGE to ColdFusion 9 has been proposed before but it was decided to leave it on CF6 as there were plans to replace the application as a whole. However, this has not yet been done and as ColdFusion 6 is now no longer supported, and possibly unstable, it has been decided to now progress with the migration of SAGE.

Scope, Objectives and Deliverables

The scope of this project includes the following:

  1. Copying relevant code for the SAGE application from the current LIVE environment in CF6 and converting these for use in CF9
  2. Creating a CF9 version of the application in DEV, TEST and LIVE
  3. Carrying out user testing on the TEST version
  4. Resolving out any problems reported during UAT
  5. Deploying the migrated versions to LIVE
  6. Updating the TADs and any other relevant documentation

No code changes that would affect the functionality of the application will be made.

The objectives are as follows:

  1. To migrate the SAGE application to ColdFusion 9
  2. To update supporting technical documentation for the migrated application

The deliverables for the project are:

  1. A migrated version of SAGE in DEV, TEST and LIVE
  2. Updated technical and support documentation

Benefits

  1. Reduced support time
  2. Reduced loss of service
  3. More functional and productive software development environment.
  4. Improved customer service

Success Criteria

The success of the project will be determined by the achievement (or not) of the above objectives.
