Priority and Funding

This is a priority 1 discretionary project.

Funding of 200 SSP (PM/BA/Tester) days and 250 IS Apps effort has been ring fenced for this project.   The figure of 250 days includes 50 days from SAC035 which was originally set up as separate project for strand 1 'communication of progression' - see https://www.projects.ed.ac.uk/project/sac034/issues/1.  

This is a multi-year project and 2015/16 funding will be known once priorities have been agreed by SS Board in March 2015. 

Impact and Dependencies

Strand 1 impact:

• All PGT and UG students will have a new method of communication of progression.
• All Schools will have to review business processes to ensure that progression decisions can be recorded and communicated in a timely manner for the summer exam boards
• The BI progression report developed by Jamie Morton should be reviewed to include relevant progression information.

Strand 1 dependencies:

• SITS upgrade project (SAC036)  - the assumption is that this will not negatively impact SAC034. 

Strand 2 impact:

• Pilot Schools will have to substantially revise business processes for setting up and processing assessment and progression
• Central oversight from Student Systems Operations or Student Adminisration may be required for creation/maintenance/QA of progression and award rules

Strand 2 dependencies:

• SITS infrastructure upgrade project (SAC040).  The new architecture may offer opportunities for reducing the load on the transactional database.
