Interim Project Review: Strand 1 and Strand 2 pilot- August 2015 DRAFT

Background

This project was to support the Assessment strand of the Student Systems Roadmap by two pieces of work in 2014/15 :

1. Implementation of the ‘Informing Students of their Final Programme, Course and Progression results’ policy

  • Develop tools to enable Schools to record progression decisions onto the Student Record and publish to the Student EUCLID view so that students have a clear communication of their progression status.

2. Development of EUCLID Assessment and Progression tools.
  • Develop tools to allow a pilot to be run in a small number of schools for a limited number of programmes and courses in 2015/16

This is a multi-year project so further work will be completed during 2015/16.

Were the project goals met?

Yes

Strand 1 delivered a mechanism to enable the recording and publishing of progression decisions in EUCLID for taught students. The project involved significant process change within the Schools which was supported by the project.  By the publication deadline date (30 June) over 18,500 progression decisions had been communicated to students through EUCLID - over 90% of students who should have received a decision did so by this deadline.

8 schools have agreed to participate in a pilot for 2015/16. Software has been delivered that will support them through Semester 1 2015/16, with further development planned during the year.

Were the project deliverables fully or partially accomplished?

Partially

Strand 1 - fully: all schools have access to record and publish progression decisions to taught students.

Strand 2 - partially: pilot schools have the ability to set up assessment structures, efficiently enter marks for assessment components and calculate overall course marks.

The goals of the projects were:

  1.

The following deliverables were achieved (from project brief)

Strand 1:
  • Input of progression decisions to EUCLID (including notes), similar to the approach used for awards;
  • Automated notification to students of progression outcome;
  • Display of progression outcome through EUCLID student view

Strand 2 pilot:

  • Set-up of course components of summative assessment with support down to question level
  • Recording of marks against each element of assessment
  • Calculation of the total course marks based on assessment component definition and weighting
  •

The following deliverables were not  described in the Brief but were delivered:

Strand 2:

  • Migration of SMART course assessment structures into EUCLID
  • Inclusion of PGT programmes and courses in the pilot
  •

Not Delivered:

  1.

Did the project deliver a solution to the problems being addressed?

Strand 1:

Yes

Strand 2 pilot: too early to tell.
