Overview

Scope

This stream of MLE003 will cover the following areas.

• The testing and configuration of the Echo360 cloud based active learning platform.
• Any configuration required within the cloud platform.
• The desktop recorder for PC and Mac.
• Preparing system administrators.
• Network data transfer from the hardware to the cloud platform.

Not in Scope (Phase 1)

• MLE003 work will not include migration of content into the new lecture recording service.
• A rollout of the desktop recorder will not be included in phase 1.

Objectives

• Emerging patterns for data transfer volume, schedules and peaks are understood.  This will allow the University to anticipate future volumes as the rollout progresses and plan accordingly.
• Confirm that a data transferred through use of the lecture recording installations is secure and complies with University best practice.
• To produce a coherent system structure that maps clearly how data moves from room, to network, to cloud platform.
• To produce administrators of the system who are knowledgeable about the system structure and confident in their ability to answer/solve day to day issues.
• To establish the best utilisation plan for the desktop recorder in relation to this service and how it fits into the full suite of media services available at the University.

Deliverables

• Administrator training. (M)
• Evaluation of the Desktop Recorder in terms of rolling out on the Managed Desktop, allowing induvial download, any Disaster Recovery implications of using the recorder and the recorder's use within the suite of media services offered centrally.  (M)
• Rollout of the desktop recorder for all staff. (HD)
• Volume testing for data transfer between switches, network and cloud. (M)
• Configure the Echo360 Active Learning Platform in TEST and LIVE. (M)

Success Criteria

• All administrators are training for the Phase 1 launch.
• The desktop recorder rollout plan has been approved by the Implementation Steering Group.
• The Network performance has been maintained throughout the deployment of lecture recording.
