Background

Over the years the different sections within IS have adopted a variety of tools for managing the infrastructure and services. Some of these tools are purchased as part of the solution and others are adopted to offer capabilities that do not exist within the vendor supplied tools.

Our environment has developed over the years to become quite mature with many different tools offering different capabilities for things like management, reporting, fault finding, performance tuning.

Our environment has reached a scale where it is technically challenging to simply administer this diverse infrastructure using such a wide range of tools and some rationalization and consolidation is now highly desirable.
