Overview

Background

McAfee anti-virus is installed on approximately 500 individual Windows servers for a number of years. There have been new developments, notably in the area of virtualisation and it is time to review and consider our deployment and protection strategies.

Scope

Review the anti-malware software market for both servers. Vendors that provide enterprise solutions that can be centrally managed from servers to network edge are of particular interest.

Objectives

Review provision of anti-virus on Windows file servers and associated application servers eg SQL to determine whether McAfee is still the optimum choice.

Review offerings at the Hypervisor layer – determine whether moving to a model where server protection is implemented at the hypervisor layer is worthwhile.

Review management consoles for deployment and maintenance/reporting etc

Review to consider the availability of suites – if a new solution is recommended for servers, can the vendor provide an enterprise solution encompassing all endpoints (coverage for Windows, Linux, Macintosh and home use), IDS/IPS, mail gateways, O365, Sharepoint etc

Deliverables

Benefits

Will have a better understanding of what new technologies are available and how they can help create efficiences as our server estate grows.
