The Distance Learning at Scale programme will deliver two types of academic programme: MicroMasters and Online Master’s Degrees. For both types of programme, it is important that the whole journeys of those taking the programmes has been mapped, to make sure the path is clearly understood and communicated, and to ensure the infrastructure supporting the journey, both on the edX.org platform and in the University of Edinburgh’s own systems, is robust and well-integrated.
This is particularly important for the MicroMasters, where those taking the programme start as learners, unaffiliated to the university, but become University of Edinburgh students, being added to its systems and becoming eligible for all associated services, at the point that they are accepted onto the capstone module.
In mapping the journeys for both learners and students, on both MicroMasters and Master’s programmes, this project will seek to identify any questions not fully answered; to document how student data will move through and between the edX.org platform and the University of Edinburgh systems; and to identify the projects and pieces of work that need to be undertaken for academic programmes to be delivered with a positive user experience.
