Overview
This project follows the outcome of the Service monitoring requirements and options appraisal (2013/14) and recommendations of the "INF107 - Environment Monitoring System - Assessment" project (2014/15).
Background
Background
The current VMware service is running vSphere 5 and ESXi 5.5 on the hypervisors. vSphere 6 has been available for some time and we need to upgrade to this new release. This will provide us with better facilities to manage the clusters and new processes to streamline management.
Scope
The project will upgrade the vCenter infrastructure with a new highly available vCenter running on updated Windows Server virtual machines with an updated SQL Server clustered database.
Priority and Funding
This is a secondment project between the Institute for Academic Development, and the Careers Service. Time allocation is 0.3FTE for a 2 year period, from both units. Additional funding may be required for technical support.

Taught Postgraduates often report their studies as a very intensive time, and the expectations on these students are very high – both academically, and in terms of why they are studying, and their future career plans.
