  • Sheffield Hallum deployment 28 May
  • Abertay deployment 4 June

Issues

  •  Shibboleth rollback

The original deployment date for Edinburgh was scheduled for 6 May but this was delayed due to issues with Shibboleth upgrade (Shibboleth was being upgraded primarily to resolve an issue in the old version that resulted in an error being experienced when the shibboleth session timed out). The issues have been put back to Topdesk and it was agreed by the project team that waiting on a resolution would not hold up the project closure – any resolution would be covered by service work – Service Management confirmed that there would be no cost implications for this option.

DevTech rolled Shibboleth back to the previous version (v2.4.3) on 13 May and the upgrade was in a position to upgrade to v5 on the 15-16 May

  • Migration

Topdesk recommended a new process to reduce the migration time (on database server). DevTech trialled this prior to the upgrade but it failed. DevTech recommended running the process on the original application server despite the longer migration time. DevTech carried out several trials to ensure migration was working before they went ahead with the upgrade and finally ended up running the migration process on the database server rather than the application server. However during the upgrade the migration terminated/failed at 5am. V4 was then brought back up and the upgrade aborted. It was not clear why the migration had failed when it was identical to the successful trial migrations. Topdesk were able to offer resolutions and changes had to be made to AT server. DevTech then ran 3 more trial migrations and the upgrade finally happened 20-21 May.

  • Issues with SHU deployment

After their upgrade SHU were unable to access Unidesk. Unfortunately the access restrictions were not removed. The developer was not available and production were unable to resolve the problem easily or quickly. This was due to the lack of documentation and handover. Production, DevTech and service management agreed that the deployment processes should be tightened up and documented better and this has since been done.

Next Steps

  • St Andrew deployment on 10 June
  • Clean up of servers
  • DSOR 17 June
  • Closure 24 June

Project is GREEN as deployment is on schedule
