Overview

Background

Stirling University are to become customers of the Unidesk hosting service provided by the University of Edinbutgh.

Scope

The scope of the project is to create the Test and Live environments for Stirling University.within the exisitng infrastructure

Objectives

This project will create new Test and Live instances of the Unidesk service for Stirling University. These instances wil be hosted on the same application server as Ulster and SHU and share the database infrastructure common to all instances.

Deliverables

  • new Test instance for Stirling
  • new Live instance for Stirling
  • updated technical documentation

TEST and LIVE environments for Stirling University with associated databases.

The UniDesk service is provided via a standard configuration of TOPdesk software with some institutional configuration.

These will be configured by cloning the demo environment and setting up/applying institutional customisation including:

  • URLs: test.stir.unidesk.ac.uk, stir.unidesk.ac.uk
  • Shibboleth login (initially using Edinburgh TEST IdP, with instructions for Production to update to Stirling IdP)
  • Holding tables and import scripts for overnight imports from holding tables to TOPdesk (Person, CMDB etc)
  • Email sending via bulkmailrelay
  • Email import to UniDesk
  • Access to settings management via agreed port numbers
  • Installed and configured bespoke work as per standard UniDesk configuration

The project does not need to provide:

  • Import of data from Stirling to holding tables (this will be done by Production Management)
  • Integration with Stirling IdP if Stirling are not able to provide this before the project is complete (Edinburgh TEST IdP can be used instead)
  • Email import from Stirling hosted email accounts if Stirling are not able to provide these before the project is complete (Edinburgh accounts can be used instead)

Consideration will be given to converting the UniDesk service to use veame based failover capability as part of this service.

Benefits

  • increased revenue for UoE
  • exploit investment in existing infrastructure
  • enhance reputration of UoE

Success Criteria

  • application and DB layers set up for Stirling
  • data feeds in place
