Project Summary

The scope of this project was to develop the new DRS Outreach Website http://www.digitalresearchservices.ed.ac.uk

  • enhancements in response to feedback from the research community
  • enhancements identified in the previous project RSS031
  • accessibility compliance

Aiming to have an updated website by end of summer 2019.

The project identified seven work packages, which were estimated and costed by agency Tayburn.

Due to technical issues, only Work Packages 1 and 2 were delivered by this project. All work in scope was delivered, at the stated cost, but not until December 2019.

Work Packages 3-7 will be delivered by 2019-20 project RSS207 which is funded by 2020 DRS budget.

To confirm, would this be to display the tag that has been used in the filter? Yes, we need to make sure that the users are sure that the resources list has been filtered
    i203 Resize – To take less screen space when using Resources Filter (for example the dropdown list does not show all the stages in once-users have to scroll; this needs to be fixed; overall the size of the filter should be smaller-it takes too much screen space)
    i204 Search by research stage and discipline and schools and campuses search box in one row or in left/side navigation or top/ advanced search option To confirm, schools and campuses are to be added as an additional tag? Yes, as additional filters (advanced search). 2 additional filters to be added. Each resource will need to have a campaus and school attached. There are around 5/6 campuses.
    i205 Type directly option for filters To confirm, do you mean rather than selecting from the list, the user would be able to type in the filter that they are looking for? Yes, users can select and/or type This can be done, however, it may be a bad user experience as generally the user with either type or select. Having both options (of typing or selecting from the list) could be confusing for the user. If we can make the copy smaller in the drop down list, people will be able to see that there are more options so should avoid adding the option to type what the user is looking for. ON HOLD FOR NOW
    i206 Results to appear as tabs like the case studies (to avoid boring list) To confirm, we would add in images to each resource similar to the case studies section. Each resource would need its own image (we can use the images that each resource has within the copy, however there are a few that have the same image). We would like to have the option to change images in modx afterwards (the way we do for case studies) If we were to do this, every ‘resource’ page would need an image otherwise it will appear as a block colour (in the image box) in the results page. Can you confirm you are happy with this? If a result does not have an image attached we can use the DRS logo as a defult image.

Lessons Learned - Issues and Risks  

No lessons learned to take forward onto RSS207 other than estimations for elapsed time were not realistic.
