Closure Report

Project Summary

The Digital Skills and Training team employed two student interns to work as Digital Champions to raise awareness of digital skills among students. The two Champions came from CAHSS and CSE respectively and worked together to promote the services and resources offered by the Digital Skills and Training team to the University of Edinburgh students. The Champions worked seven hours per week from January to May 2019.

Outcome

The following deliverables were accomplished by the Digital Champions:

  • Posters designed and distributed across a number of Schools
  • Both Champions attended Library stalls with core Digital Skills team members to raise awareness of the team’s resources and services
  • Written promotional materials were created, consisting articles for the Digital Skills Newsletter (to be published in September 2019), social media posts and promotional messages for School newsletters and MyDevelopmentHub
  • Connections were made with student facing staff members across a number of Schools, raising awareness of Digital Skills among staff with a view of disseminating this to students
  • Connections were made with societies, encouraging them to promote Digital Skills resources and services available to students
  • Qualitative interviews were held with students to gain more information on students’ perception and experience of digital skills

The following reflective video was produced at the end of the Digital Champions’ internship: https://media.ed.ac.uk/media/Kaseya+Chisala+and+Hiroki+Hirayama+-+Digital+Champions/1_k34a1vfg/39410531

The project was considered a success and the team are looking to hire more Digital Champions in 19/20 to continue the work that was started this year and to further develop promotional networks.

Thanks

We would like to thank the Digital Champions for their hard work in raising awareness of digital skills among the student body, and the students and staff members who contributed to the project.

Budget

The project was initially awarded £8000, and closed under budget at around £5000. This was mainly due to budget being calculated for three Digital Champions, one from each College, but due to lack of applications from CMVM students, only two Champions were hired. Budget was also calculated from November 2018 onwards, but the Champions didn't start in their roles until January 2019 as it took longer than anticipated to recruit due to the festive break.
