Overview
Background
Following on from the creation of the new University architecture by the ITS100 project , IS Applications are starting projects to migrate applications databases the new University infrastructure. The old infrastructure is nearing the end of lifespan and we have to move the application databases to ensure we enjoy the benefits of the new set-up in terms of speed, reliability and failover and to ensure continuity of your service.
Scope, Objectives and Deliverables
The Project will migrate the databases APPSLIVE , NEWSLIVE to the new Database Architectuire.
A new APPS2 database maybe created to hold any new schemas after assessment of the performance and maintainability of the APPS set-up on the new architecture.
The UCDLIVE database will be decomissioned and will not be migrated as part of this project, the only remaining schema , Calum Maclean, will be migrated to the new APPS2.
The MISLIVE database schemas will be assessed as to whether they are still llive or in use. Specifically
- Is the CSE user still required
- Will the DIRECT system schema be migrated
- Comfirm usage of BO users . These ae currently R2 and wil not be required after the R4 release in January
- Review Journeyx system usage with USD
- Review change control records against APPSLIVE and MISLIVE.
The project will migrate the databases instances for DEV and TEST , co-ordinating test efforts from user departments to ensure the process has been verified before carrying out the LIVE migration.
The list of Applications/schemas contained in the databases to be addressed are listed in this link. Schema List
The project will also deliver a list of URLs of applications which require an upgrade to COSIGN v3. This upgrade will be carried out during projects relevant to the applications.
The project will not undertake a review of infrastructure for annual planning.
Benefits
To ensure that services are maintained at an appropriate level, we need to undertake regular upgrades of system components for the purposes of security, vendor support or technology change. Key benefits will be secure systems, full support position on our core technologies and ability to leverage new functions or features.
Success Criteria
A fully functioning APPSLIVE and NEWSLIVE on the new architecture with no degradation in service.
The creation of a new APPS2 database as a repository for new applications if deemed required after assessment of the perceived performance issue of the current APPS database.
Any functioning or required applications within MISLIVE moved to the new architecture as part of the APPS2 database . MISLIVE to be retired when there are no LIVE schemas.
Calum Maclean online Catalogue moved to the APPS2 database, and UCD retired.
