I would like to spend IDCORE’s share of the CDT Capital grant (£13,333) on updating the AV facilities both in Hudson-Beare CR5 (The classroom used exclusively by IDCORE) and on providing improved video-conferencing facilities in the small Faraday building seminar room (1.60).
The existing smart-board in CR5 was installed eight years ago and has no HDMI connectivity, we would like a system which is based in a large OLED screen and supports MirrorOP screen sharing, a lecture recording facility in CR5 is also desirable. We do not normally use the smart board facilities, as making it connect to a laptop plugged into the VGA cable at the lectern is difficult. There are no curtains on the skylight windows in CR5, making the existing board unusable when sunlight shines through them - a brighter OLED screen should help.
If there is sufficient money remaining we would like to ensure the small seminar room is able to support video conferencing (using webex/skype) with a camera able to see the meeting table and a wall mounted screen at one end. This would improve facilities for remote supervision of EngD students and make life much easier when conducting recruitment interviews with students who are unable to come to Edinburgh. At the moment we have to cluster round a laptop to do this. The existing trolly mounted screen could be used. Once again making this compatible with MirrorOp would be a significant benefit.
Best wishes
David
