Project Summary:
Unfortunately it wasn't possible to deploy Discourse within the timescales of this innovation programme (by the end of July).
The fundamental issue with this innovation project is that it was not anticipated how complex the setup of the underlying software would be. The software requires technology (Docker) which the university currently does not support or manage.
The resources to deliver this technology were beyond the scope of this innovation project and therefore it was not possible to progress the work using this technology.
If this innovation project should go ahead in future two options need to be looked at:
- Can another technology be used?
- Teams delivering the technology need to be scoped in the project and be part of the innovation proposal
I'm currently liaising with other teams in IS Apps with a view to proposing this project again for the next innovation round as a joint submission between a couple of teams, so we can have the correct resources in place at the outset of the project.
The university's marketing department had previously expressed an interest in this innovation project, and are currently determining if they could provide funding in some way to progress a similar project outside the innovation programme.
