Section One: Programme Commentary, RAG and Resources Update

Overall Programme RAG: AMBER

The programme has a large number of ('Apps') projects reflecting the activity and expectations being generated in the TEL area. Amongst its challenges and opportunites, there is the new LTW division and changes in the way of working and relationships with rest of IS which that will bring. So an exciting time.

Programme Manager sets the status of programme as Amber given the uncertainty around the Clickers Procurement award of contract and possible risk to that project and also implementation of the solution in time for 2015/16 start of term. Other project prograssing well and budget fine.

Annual Planning is well under way and proposals prepared and prioritised. The first draft of the 'Red Line' show a good outcome for TEL.

Working with APPS
Moodle Upgrade

Planned annual upgrade of Moodle VLE platform. We should be looking at a yearly upgrade but jumping 2 versions at a time (upgrading in June/July each year).  The exact version each year will be dependent on our plugins and how quickly they can be tested/redeveloped by non-Moodle HQ developers. At present we expect to deploy in July the version that comes out in the December previous

Online Assesment Evaluations

The development of pilot projects exploring the use of technologies and  functionality for innovative assessment and feedback practice. Focus will be on evaluating opportunities and challenges for integration with existing systems, best match with pedagogic requirements, adaptability and scalability. We anticipate that the technologies explored will be a mix of hosted (cloud-based) and installed here.  Schools and courses with a history of innovative approaches to assessment will be identified and invited to develop these pilots.

Three separate projects are expected :- Adaptive Learing - Started as TEL014 Map My Programme Feedback Analytics Capture Systems

TELS Management Information

This project will deliver a management information reporting solution that Schools and IS can use to understand the breadth and depth of engagement with IS Technology Enhanced Learning Services. It will be possible to see the picture at individual School level, at College level, or for the institution as a whole.

Achievements in the last period

  • Our final task is to deploy status checks to LIVE for use by relevant teams in LTW and IS Apps.
  • The TAD has reverted back to its correct state

Issues

  • Due to higher priority issues with Learn pre the festive period the Service Owner has not yet been able to test the status checks in TEST.
  • Once this is done we will rework the timeline.

Next Steps

  • Put the status checks into production and close the project.
  • It should be noted that the delay has not effected our budget.

Report by Sue Woodger for December 2014

Achievements

    • Infrastructure updates were released 27 November
    • New version of software received from CogBooks 1 December which addressed some issues that users were having with the system
    • System sign off 12 December – with conditions - see issues

Issues

  • The sign off meeting for Global Tectonics materials was held on 4 December. Generally the project team were happy with what they saw but felt that the materials could only be signed off completely if the SME was happy with them. Jenny Tait,  the SME, felt that she was not ready to sign the materials as ready for use by students as there were still some changes to go through CogBooks, she still had one of the editors reviews to check and images were not yet input into the materials. She agreed to complete her review by 19 December. The lead editor confirmed on 22 December that Jenny is happy with lectures 1-5 and is working with SME on lectures 6-10.

The sign off meeting for the system was held on 12 December. The system was signed off but was conditional on the priority 1 items being completed to the project teams satisfaction by 22 December.

Next Steps

    • Sign off of Global Tectonics materials by 19 December 14
    • High priority outstanding issues from system sign off completed by 22 December
    • Low priority outstanding issues from system sign off completed by beginning January
    • Sign off of Geophysics materials by 23 January 2015
    • Start of Global Tectonics pilot 12 January 15

  • A deployment for innovative Learning Week has been scheduled.
  • Dev Tech (who are taking the mandatory elements of the project through to testing sign off) have updated the upgrade to TEST.

Next Steps

  • Carry out the mandatory elements of the project with an aim to deploy in the Innovative Learning Week.
  • The project will initially work through the Mandatory elements of the project which is primarily the on premises update of QMP from 5.2 to 5.7.
  • After these elements have been completed we will look at the HD deliverables and re-estimate.
