Report by Karen Stirling for for March 2016

Achievements in Last Period

  • Project Sponsor has advised his top 5 outcomes, these have to be reviewed with project stakeholders for consistancy in approach
  • Database analysis completed to identify current list of databases, details contained in spreadsheet initial numbers noted as 651 databases to allow Statement of Works to be provided by Comms Care / XMA
  • Statement of works received for SQL Audit - this has been reviewed by Project Sponsor / Programme Manager and some further clarity required with XMA, this is being feed back to Account Manager
  • Initial dates for audit to complete proposed as 4th / 11th April however there are a number of ITI and Network essential maintenance being undertaken over that period so it has been suggested to SQLTechnician week commencing 18th April for onsite activity.
  • Project Sponsor tasked to complete current cost baseline for management of existing SQL infrastructure this is to be used to compare against other options proposed by XMA

Issues

  • Further PICCL to be submitted to revise Analysis now expected to complete 22/4/16 and Design milestones to be confirmed on completion of Audit and Recommendation report from XMA
  • Due to delays in reaching a decision on infrastructure Project Sponsor / Technology Management has agreed for 4 VM servers (2x live, 2x test) to host SQL Server dbs until INF111 project completes. Some days to be charged to project for build activity Dev Tech to provide estimates to record change in project.

  • Complete SQL Audit
  • Report on findings/ recommendations

The project current status is AMBER as milestones to be confirmed for completion of Findings/ Recommendations to be reported

RED

Report by Colin Watt for for March 2016

Achievements in Last Period

  • Basic dashboards for Learn built against Test (milestone not complete).
  • Microsoft "Chalk & Talk" sessions completed with ITI w/c 14/03/16.

Issues

  • MS System Center UI only compatible with Internet Explorer; an inconvenience but outweighed by benefits; however this could be an issue for some IS stakeholders; likewise presentation on non-Windows PCs; there do appear to be Third Party solutions which avoid the need for IE (and would assist with developing more sophisticated dashboard capability than is available out of the box), with associated licensing costs.
  • PM has agreed with Project Sponsor that a face to face meeting with all key stakeholders is necessary to cover the above and agree whether to continue with SCOM / the project.
  • PM has agreed with Project Sponsor to liaise with ITI to arrange a conference call with Microsoft to explore options for the above, ahead of the face to face meeting.

Next Steps

  • Project team and key stakeholders to meet and cover above issues; decide whether to continue or halt project.
  • (If agreement is to continue) review budget, estimates, and replan milestones.

The project current status is RED due to uncertainty on SCOM integration.
