System Monitoring Solution - Pilot

INF107 having completed, the next project will split into a Pilot phase to validate the technical solution and the process changes recommended, before procurement/implementation.

We had hoped to start this in 2014/15 but due to other priorities and resource constraints, will start in Q4 2015 once we have discussed with colleagues in ITI.

Service Resilience Capability

Staff and students have been operating more and more on a 24x7x365 basis. Service availability is key to ensure this. While our infrastructure is robust, issues to arise and as we do not have personnel on hand to the same timeframe, an automated facility is required.

To start Q1 2016

Annual upgrades of development tools (JIRA, Bamboo, etc) (15-16)

We have taken on the above products as part of our core workflow for project (and support) delivery in recent times. As such they are essential to our ability to successfully deliver change within the University. Failure to keep the products up to date and in a supportable position exposes us to the risk of serious issues with the software that may affect their ability to run and operate in our environment.

To start Q1 2016

AMBER

Report by Karen Stirling for October 2015

Achievement in Last Period

  • Project Brief approval given by WIS on 9th October
  • Microsoft Professional Services have provided a proposal document this has been issued to Project Sponsor / Programme manager for review and request for funding to support project

 Issues

  • Additional scoping call held with Microsoft on 30th Sept – expected proposal document within 2 days however not received until 16th October
  • Discussion with Project Sponsor / Programme Manager for MS funding delayed due to PM on unexpected leave from 5th October until 21st October
  • Head of Development Services has suggested that we use an independent consultant due to the cost of MS proposal, this has been raised up to Director of IS Apps. In the meantime, PM to research local area IT consultants to contact, this will inevitably impact timescales for analysis and design

Next Steps

  • Confirm funding in place for consultancy work
  • Start design and build activities
