Section One: Programme Commentary, RAG and Resources Update

Overall Programme RAG: GREEN

The programme has a large number of ('Apps') projects reflecting the activity and expectations being generated in the TEL area. Amongst its challenges and opportunites, there is the new LTW division and changes in the way of working and relationships with rest of IS which that will bring. So an exciting time.

All projects now back to Green, and all but one resourced, but we have concerns that we have several projects all now delivering at the same time in June and July, and also from resourcing can see that a substantial burn rate is required to deliver the projects in the remaining months. However, at this point we keep the status as Green as the project managers and LTW are committing to closures as stated.

A new in-year project TEL024 Migration of MVM UG to PebblePad has also started, prioritised by senior management to move medical students from current systems onto the PebblePad e-portfolio to faciliate feddback and assessment.

Report by Colin Watt for March 2015

Achievements in Last Period

  • Project Brief and estimates agreed w/c 23/03/15.
  • End of Planning approved 27/03/15.
  • PM has agreed with Project Sponsor that the automation tools delivered as part of INF108 Automated Server Builds will be used to deploy the platform for the upgrade project.

Issues

  • It took longer than expected to agree estimates with all relevant parties, which resulted in delays to the end of planning.
  • Estimates include the additional work required for the PHP and MySQL upgrades, and the work to build the platform using the Puppet automation tools; this work will make future upgrades more reliable and easier, but the contingency plan in case of a serious delay will be to revert to the standard approach to building the platform.

Next Steps

  • Development Services to work with LTW on Moodle plug-in compatibility.
  • PM to work with Business Lead on updates to EqIA.
  • Design and build of new platform.
