Analysis - Draft CMDB Mapping By Stefan

I have tried to map Change Control with CMDB - see attached document.

Some comments:

In Change Control we use Server, Database Instance and Application/Service. Server maps to Hardware, Application/Service maps to Software. Not sure about Database Instance could either be mapped to Server or Software or we could make another Object in CMDB as we have some left.

We also hold details about Business areas, but I think we probably can get away with that information by using the current UniDesk structure/other fields.

In addition to the existing Change Control objects I would like to start record interfaces. We could use the Software object in CMDB to record this.

I have a feeling that the difficulty with the CMDB setup may come when populating the various Searchlist for object fields, as the population of these fields will depend on what data one wants to store. For example for the Object Hardware there is a field "Object Type" - we may want to populate this with Application, Database, Backup, Domain, Firewall, Applications and Database, while others may want to populate this with a completely other set (e.g. DEV, TEST, LIVE). We will have to do some analysis and design around this setup.
