New Project: Online Assessment evaluations-Adaptive Learning
This is the first of three pilot projects which will explore the use of technologies and functionality for innovative assessment and feedback practice. This project will evaluate Adaptive Learning.
The focus is on evaluating opportunities and challenges for integration with existing systems, best match with pedagogic requirements, adaptability and scalability. Schools and courses with a history of innovative approaches to assessment will be identified and invited to develop these pilots. The outcome of each pilot will be a decision either to end the pilot and close the service offering; or to expand the service offering beyond the pilot group.
The project (TEL014) will explore the use of Adaptive Learning technology using the CogBooks platform. The courses to take part using the platform are:
- Introduction to Geophysics (EASC08008)
- Global Tectonics and the Rock Cycle (EASC08020)
Faculty staff and SMEs will develop learning maps for each course followed by the content itself. Adaptive learning materials will provide a more personalised technology enabled and data driven approach to learning that has the potential to deepen students engagement, provide mobile study, customise the student pathway through the lectures and permit lecturers to use class-time in more focussed and productive ways. There should also be the benefits of improving retention, measuring student learning and improving pedagogy.
There will be approximately 100 students participating in the pilot in semester 2. At the end of the semester feedback will be gathered from staff and students and a decision taken on whether to expand or close the service.
