Enhancements to the Path Programme Builder for Students

At the end of July, we launched the enhanced Path service, now available for the whole of the University. As well as opening up course and programme information for every school on Path, we’re welcoming 10 new schools across SCE, MVM & HSS Colleges as engaged partners of the service who will be using additional functionality.

The Path service is now benefiting from:

  • Moving the application to Oracle and IS corporate infrastructure, making it more robust and scalable.
  • Automatic nightly updating from EUCLID.
  • Integration with the new Course Timetable Browser application (https://browser.ted.is.ed.ac.uk/).
  • Enhanced functionality, including allowing some Path options to be switched on/off for use by engaged Schools.

This work will also provide feedback to inform future developments of Path and PCIM (Programme and Course Information Management).

With little advertising within Schools so far, the service is already proving very popular with average daily usage now over 5x that of the previous version. We expect this to grow further in the coming weeks leading up to the start of term.

Some comments received:

“Good enhancements to an already great service.” (student)

“I've never used Path before, but I'm very impressed! It looks and works great.” (student)

“Much better than DRPS - looks better, easier to find things, easy to navigate. This new version [is] easier to navigate than previous versions of PATH.” (student)

“Very useable for someone who is not particularly IT literate!” (staff)
