IMPORTANT: Projects website to be restricted to University network only
We're currently running a project to develop a new & improved version of this projects website that will look, feel & operate more like the University website to provide a more integrated solution and to take advantage of some of the new features available.
As part of this project we need to temporarily restrict external access to the current website until the new website is ready. This means that the current site will only be available from within the University network (i.e. on University sites or via VPN from external locations).
What does this mean to me?
For University staff accessing the website on University property, or externally using VPN, this will mean no change and you will continue to be able to access the site.
However, if you share your project with external users, they will not be able to access the site without VPN access. Details on how to register for VPN are on the University website at http://www.ed.ac.uk/information-services/computing/desktop-personal/vpn/vpn-service-registration
When will it be happening?
The restriction will be in place from Monday 8th August and will continue until w/c 22nd August when the new version of the website goes live.
What will happen when the new website goes live?
The transition to the new website will be relatively seamless apart from a short period of outage during the switchover to allow us to migrate the existing data over.
There are no changes you need to make as the new website will be on the same url as the current one. All of your existing project data will be migrated to the new site. The new site is laid out very similarly to the current website so you should be able to navigate it easily. Adding & amending data will be identical to the University website (EdWeb) so should be familiar to many of you. We will be providing simple user guides for those of you new to EdWeb.
More information on the new website will be sent out before the go-live.
Apologies if this restriction causes you any issues with external stakeholders to your projects. We hope that the new website will make the brief restriction worthwhile.
