Simulation Equipment
A brief initial scope of the University owned equipment used in medical simulation teaching has been carried out and is as follows:
Basic Life Support (full size) manikins = 2
Basic Life Support (half size) manikins = 3
SimMan High Fidelity manikin = 1
Megacode Kelly (Advanced) manikins = 2
Megacode Kelly (Basic) manikins = 2
Computer equipment to support and control SimMan and Megacode Kelly's
'Harvey' Cardiology Patient Simulator = 2
'SMOTS' recording facilities
A more complete breakdown of the equipment including costs, replacement cycles, annual maintenance costs and possible alternatives will be provided as an output of this project. This will allow the Medical School/College to forecast budget requirements in the future.
Simulated Patient Database
The initial database was created in MS Access by the Simulated Patient Co-ordinator (Bryan Allan) and is therefore unsupported by IS. Unfortunately, due to a previously unsuccessful attempt to have this redeveloped using ACT funding, this unsupported database is still in use and therefore poses potential risks to teaching sessions which require simulated patients. The ACT funding is still available and will be used to redevelop the database as part of this project.
