Section One: Programme Commentary, RAG and Resources Update

Programme Commentary

This reporting period has continued to see progress on all projects. The TSL Implementation work has been completed and closed off. The Search Engine Implementation project is quickly gathering pace towards MVP next year. A sponsor funded project to update the core software and expand the talks@ed service has started; planning should be completed prior to the break.

In other news, Stratos Filalithis and Tim Gray presented the CMS and community building work at Burda Media's Thunder Day in Hamburg. The presentation was very well received with discussion about possibly hosting an event with Burda in the future ongoing.

  • Draft UI Styleguide
  • User stories and UAT preparation undertaken

Issues

  • No open issues however as noted in last month's update there was a more resource intensive development method for the front end of the system being progressed than originally scoped for.  Additional resource was required from the Software Development Team.  This was managed within project contingencies and a lower levels of required resource elsewhere in IS.

RAG

Completed actions

  • Created a project (UWP099) to capture all activities.
  • Regular meeting of the EdWeb/EdGEL Task Force (18/11/2017).
  • Organised initial meeting with the Law School website development team.
    • The School will migrate from Squiz Matrix CMS to Drupal 8.
    • There was interest in using EdGEL as a starting point (with an appetite to extend) for their updated front end delivery.
  • Introduced use of GitLab to record and manage EdWeb release planning. This will allow more transparent communication regarding upcoming EdWeb enhancements. The expectation is to be better prepared in all fronts.

Ongoing actions

  • Continue having transparent communication between the task force members, having responsibility to share with other stakeholders when relevant.
  • Liaison with Schools and Business Units to promote and facilitate collaboration, improve adoption of EdWeb/EdGEL.
    • Edinburgh Business School.
    • School of Law.
  • Planning of collaboration activities, e.g. code sprints.

Planned actions

  • Technical reps from the task force to meet with technical reps from the community to provide feedback and guidance on best practices to adopt EdWeb/EdGEL.
  • Future meeting planning.
