Report by Sue Woodger for October 2018

Achievements in Last Period

  • QMP have been working on the Test install and migrations. This now looks as if it is completed but we just are waiting on QMP updating us to confirm this.
  • LTW have confirmed that they can commence testing this week i.e. from 7 November

Issues

The Test install continues with the following issues

  • QMP informed that the load balancer was not configured correctly. DevTech asked for a meeting with QMP as they did not think that was the issue. The meeting took place on 23 October where DevTech informed that they did not think that the traffic was getting through. QMP investigated and identified the issue was in one of their scripts – the destination for the ETL portion was incorrectly specified.
  • There was then an issue with logging onto the SQL instance – QMP then got the correct logon from DevTech
  • Repository files then had to be sorted with a restoration of the database

Next Steps

  • QMP to complete TEST install and complete migrations
  • Additional a budget to be agreed at programme level – PM will then put forward a piccl for additional coat and revised milestones
  • LTW to complete testing
  • TEST signoff
  • LTW documentation tasks to start when TEST signed off
  • Live infrastructure to be set up

Rag commentary:

The project remains at RED because although we are expecting Test to be ready this week (week ending 9 November) we don’t have QMPs validation on this yet. Once verified by QMP that TEST is fully upgraded and migrations are complete we can move the project to AMBER.

LTW have confirmed that an early January date is best for Live deployment which leaves us with only 5 weeks to get the Live environment created by ITI and for QMP to do the upgrade. We absolutely must have full commitment from everyone in UoE and have it from DevTech, Project Services and LTW. The biggest risk to not meeting the dates is ITI as they cannot commit to dates up front.

Impact:

The primary impact to this upgrade not happening is to students as they will be on an unsupported system for summative assessment which could break at any point.

End of support for the current version of QMP, which is v5.7 (but commonly referred to as v5), will be July 2019, however according to their website and confirmation from Mark Findlay issues will only be fixed at the vendor's discretion. QMP also state the resolution to most issues will require an upgrade - which we are currently trying to do. Any deployment requires university wide agreement plus their time for testing so LTW attempt wherever possible to avoid deploying changes to their services during teaching time and have advised that week beginning 7 January will be best for the live deployment.
