Report by Colin Watt for Sue Woodger for September 2018
Achievements in Last Period
- Limited progress in September due to clarifications on the rules to be set up on Load balancers and the Start of Session change freeze.
- VPN access issues resolved. allowing QMP to remotely connect.
- Project overall priority raised to HIGHER: see item 13
- PM and Programme Manager have escalated delays with ITI Enterprise Services (Unix Platforms) but this has again resulted in more elapsed time; it proved more difficult than expected to organise a face to face meeting to make sure we are working collaboratively towards a solution (see issues).
- DevTech have received further detail from QMP to help determine the health of servers, required to help implement more graceful handling or errors.
Issues
- The request made by QMP for implementation of load balancer rules to handle incoming traffic were rejected and because of the delays confirming information between all parties unfortunately the request itself became subject to the restrictions of the Start of Session change freeze. In order to make progress the PM and Programme Manager requested ITI (Enterprise Services - Unix Platforms) meet face to face with IS Apps DevTech and the project team, in order that agreement be reached on the detail of what was being requested to be implemented; the intention being to have a common objective internally and then follow up again with the supplier for further clarification on detail or relay back to them any issues with their request. A meeting was attended 25/09/18 following which there was further clarification on the outstanding UniDesk calls between Unix Platforms and DevTech teams. DevTech have also been in contact with QMP to determine a method for establishing health checks on the servers; information has now been received and passed on to ITI via the UniDesk call.
- PM and Programme Manager have emphasised the need for the work on the infrastructure to be prioritised in order that QMP be able to complete the TEST install and verify it is functioning. To date, Unix Platforms team are unable to commit to have staff available on hand at the time of testing in case minor changes are required. Unless this happens, the likelihood is that the dates for delivery to the LIVE platform would need to be pushed back further. At this stage meeting the previously agreed date of December is very optimistic.
- The project team would like to formally escalate that there is a commitment of ITI Unix Platforms staff availability to be on hand at the time of testing to work with DevTech and QMP (via DevTech) to ensure the solution in place functions correctly, and reduce the chance of further delays should further minor changes be required.
Next Steps
- PM to update milestones
- DevTech to work closely with Unix Platforms on load balancer config and testing
- QMP to complete TEST install and complete migrations
- TEST signoff
- LTW documentation tasks to start when TEST signed off
