Section One: Programme Commentary, RAG and Resources Update

Overall Programme RAG: AMBER

The programme is on course to deliver most of the projects on budget and within the year but TEL011 PRS project will carry over into 14/15.

It is hoped that the impact of the 14/15 budget will be offset by the fact that 30 days have been allocated for Implementation of the PRS system, and this may turn out to be much less as the decision is for a virtual, wireless system without the need for local infrastructure changes.

Report by Colin Forrest for May 2014

Achievements in Last Period

  • The BRD and the TAD have been signed off by the project team.
  • Initial scripting for the one way failover has been completed.
  • We had our 1st senior team directional meeting between IS Apps and Service Management.  This was very productive and allowed the project to have a smooth approval of the TAD and BRD.

Issues

  • The Learn Dev environment is currently being used for the testing of Learn patch SP16.  While this patch is in Dev it delays our work.  One of the features of the SP16 patch will be tested by our project and if the feature works as intended we can maintain our development path. The feature will allow us to build a infrastructure for Learn where the software does not required hard coding to one side of our infrastructure which is a major restriction placed on the current infrastructure by Learn.
  • The TEST environment is too small to replicate LIVE.  SM has removed all the WebCT files from Learn TEST to see if we can reduce its size to the amount we can currently be allocated.  We've been allocated 320GB currently for our new infrastructure and Learn is 490GB.  We will eventually require to replicate the intended 2TB LIVE Learn infrastructure, but that will be a hardware purchase and it is hoped that the deletion of WebCT files will bring Test Learn to a size where we can progress with the work while the hardware purchase is made.
  • The two above points may cause project delays.

Next Steps

  • Get into DEV and test the features of the SP16 patch.
  • Compile the scripts and have them reviewed for suitability by a second senior team directional meeting.
