Section One: Programme Commentary, RAG and Resources Update

Overall Programme RAG: AMBER

The MVM programme continues at a time of significant change for MVM IT. The new LTW division is now in place, with resulting changes in MVM support, and the College is undertaking a strategic review of its IT services.

For now, and already as a result of these changes, the main project remains the MVM002 Transition of MVM Hosted Application to IS Infrastructure. 120 days are set aside for this project in this year, but much will depend on the MVM College IT review and how it prioritises applications and sets out a road map for them, and also agreements between LTW, USD and Applications as to the support model and resourcing post-divisional re-organisation, expected in early November.  The later the agreements take, the less likely we are to burn through the 120 days so need to manage risk of having unspent days in the programme. As we are now in February, the project status is Red.

Core funding days continue to fund small pieces of analysis as per last year, and also some days are given for analysis of possible TRISTAN replacement. However, this work is now completed.

MVM003 is a separate 'non-Apps' analysis piece. MVM005 is a funded development managed by the Apps Development Team.

The programme is set as AMBER  as we have tow projects set to that status. However, the trend in each project is to resolving risks and issues by the end of March.

The expectation is that we do not require the 100 days for MVM002 as currently planned and that we can use the budget for other work.

RAG Status

AMBER

Report completed by Maurice Franceschi for February 2015

The budget likely to be insufficient to do the work in 14/15 - this is why the status of the project was AMBER

The Wordpress and Simple Hosting is almost completed, withjust needing LTW to confirm we can migrate last of these.

IS Directors have now made decisions which mean the project is now moving again, and we are starting to plan the migration of the 'complex sites'.

With the decision around resourcing just needing final confirmation, the project will move back to status as set by WIS, as AMBER this month.

Achievements in Last Period

  • Continue and complete with WordPress Migration by end of  February - expected by 27th March
  • Clarification from Directors of LTW and Apps, also Head of MVM IT and of USD so we can do the Complex Hosting migration - almost cofnirmed

Issues

  • dependency on MVM College Review so we can confirm the next tranche of 'Simple Hosting' for 2014/15 to be migrated
  • three Amber risks - funding, support and the new division - see the project log

Next Steps

  • LTW to agreee on migration of simple hosting sites which are readu to port (2nd March)
  • Clarification from Directors of LTW and Apps, also Head of MVM IT and of USD - 'confirmed in writing'
  • Review of services and serversso we can prioritise Complex Hosting (2nd March)
  • Set milestones, confirm resource bookings, set tasks, set estimates

Report completed by Maurice Franceschi for Dave Berry for February 2015

We have met with the business, have documented what they need.

A prioritised list of the requests has been sent, with estimations, and with a suggested build phase mid-March.

https://www.projects.ed.ac.uk/project/mvm005/page-0

The current 25 day funded budget is sufficient to cover the list of work.

However, with both Software Dev staff leaving leaving we have obvious issues.

Achievements in Last Period

  • engagement with sponsor, confirm new milestones and resourcing - done

Issues

  • With Software Dev staff leaving and the tight budget - we set the project as status AMBER with a successful build in March we can move proejct back to Green

Next Steps

  • build
