Section One: Programme Commentary, RAG and Resources Update

Overall Programme RAG: RED

The MVM programme continues at a time of significant change for MVM IT. The new LTW division is now in place, with resulting changes in MVM support, and the College is undertaking a strategic review of its IT services.

For now, and already as a result of these changes, the main project remains the MVM002 Transition of MVM Hosted Application to IS Infrastructure. 120 days are set aside for this project in this year, but much will depend on the MVM College IT review and how it prioritises applications and sets out a road map for them, and also agreements between LTW, USD and Applications as to the support model and resourcing post-divisional re-organisation, expected in early November.  The later the agreements take, the less likely we are to burn through the 120 days so need to manage risk of having unspent days in the programme. As we are now in February, the project status is Red.

Core funding days continue to fund small pieces of analysis as per last year, and also some days are given for analysis of possible TRISTAN replacement. However, this work is now completed.

MVM003 is a separate 'non-Apps' analysis piece. MVM005 is a funded development managed by the Apps Development Team. There is sufficient concern for this project to set its status as Red.

The budget likely to be insufficient to do the work in 14/15 - this is why the status of the project was AMBER

The Wordpress and Simple Hosting is almost completed, with LTW estimating completion by 13th Feb. Milestones changed accordingly.

There is still no decision on the support model between Apps, LTW. The project now moves to RED status this month, although we do hope to have a decision this month.

Report completed by Maurice Franceschi for Alyson Shaw for January 2015

We have met with the business, have documented what they need.

A prioritised list of the requests has been sent, with estimations, and with a suggested build phase mid-March.

https://www.projects.ed.ac.uk/project/mvm005/page-0

The current 25 day funded budget is sufficient to cover the list of work.

We expect to be able to set the project back to Green with new milestones within the week, once confirmed in ASTA and by business.

Achievements in Last Period

  • none

Issues

  • project needs clarification of issues before we can plan remainder of build and delivery - status RED

Next Steps

  • engagement with sponsor, confirm new milestones and resourcing
