LCI037 Steps Through Time
Project Manager: Christine Love-Rodgers
|
Achievements
- Between Monday 23 to Wednesday 25 April, we held a daily display of New College Special Collections items featuring items from two different centuries each day, and encouraged students to take a few minutes break from their revision to vote on their favourite items from each century. Over the three days we had nearly 120 visitors to our displays, many of whom commented that they had no idea that New College Library held Special Collections items like these.
- 6 items were selected for Steps Through Time images, one per century, based on votes from the student engagement event and further discussion with Divinity student representatives on the Project Steering Group.
- Student Project Research Assistant recruited and appointed, starting 21 May (student undertaking MSc History of Art, Theory and Display)
- Photography sourced for two items with rights clearance for one from the Glasgow Herald
- Label and timeline text drafted in consultation with Project Steering Group
- Initial design concepts received from designer and reviewed by Project Steering Group
Issues
-
A clear message about representing diversity in our text and image choices was received from the student community. This presented some challenges because of the nature of the New College collection (white, Protestant, male), but we've identified some ways to curate diversity into the narrative.
Next steps
-
6 June : all content to be supplied to designer
-
18 June : Studio SP supply first draft of graphic panels and timeline, circulate to Project Steering Group for comments
-
25 June : Project Steering Group meetings to discuss, amend and approve designs
-
9 July : artwork goes to print
-
16 July : artwork is installed
