System Monitoring Solution - Pilot

INF107 having completed, the next project will split into a Pilot phase to validate the technical solution and the process changes recommended, before procurement/implementation.

We had hoped to start this in 2014/15 but due to other priorities and resource constraints, will start in Q4 2015 once we have discussed with colleagues in ITI.

Service Resilience Capability

Staff and students have been operating more and more on a 24x7x365 basis. Service availability is key to ensure this. While our infrastructure is robust, issues to arise and as we do not have personnel on hand to the same timeframe, an automated facility is required.

To start Q1 2016

Annual upgrades of development tools (JIRA, Bamboo, etc) (15-16)

We have taken on the above products as part of our core workflow for project (and support) delivery in recent times. As such they are essential to our ability to successfully deliver change within the University. Failure to keep the products up to date and in a supportable position exposes us to the risk of serious issues with the software that may affect their ability to run and operate in our environment.

To start Q1 2016

RAG Status / RAG change during last month

AMBER

Report by Gillian Henderson for September 2015

Note from Programme Manager- RAG Status Amber Status moved to Amber during the last period, as resources were re-allocated to a priority 1 project. The plan has been re-cast and new milestones are in place, so that project is back on track and status will be Green again next month.

Achievements in Last Period

  • Complete build of Dev CF11 Environment.
  • Complete Migration of dev Application to validate CF11 - iSkills
  • Review and agree on standard CF11 config settings
  • Build Implementation plan for CF11 Install created
  • Implementation plan for iSkills migration created
  • Build sign off complete
  • Carry out prep, including requesting VM's for test environment
  • CF11 environment created
  • Prep for iSkills test migration carried out.

Issues

  • The duration of the dev setup tasks for CF11 took longer than anticipated. This was due to resources booked on the project (Mark Dobbing) working on other projects alongside this work and issue configuring CF11 environment. Re-estimation carried out after build sign off and test and live bookings have now been re-planned following on from the conflict and cosign issue encountered in dev. The conflict for Mark Dobbings time has been minimised as the majority of tasks for TTU010 will now be assigned to David McNicoll and Emilio Lopez.
  • The effort for some of the dev tasks was closer to the 95 % estimate due to config issues with new CF version and new Centos OS. All issues resolved and re-estimate of taken place for test and live. Minimal changes to susequent estimates so no changes to overall estimate expected.

Next Steps

  • Migrate iSkills Test environment to CF11
  • Test iSkills following upgrade to CF11
  • Acceptance Sign off
  • DR Test carried out
  • Updates to Operational doc  including DR procedure and creating new Instance in CF11
  • Carry out prep, including requesting VM's for live environment
  • Prep for test iSkills migration carried out.
