Section One: Programme Commentary, RAG and Resources Update

Overall Programme RAG: GREEN

The programme remains overall on course to deliver its projects, more or less as planned.

A contingency of  27 days remains available to the programme, and the recommendation is to keep this to to allow some 15/16 project to start early and for increases to projects such as INF108.

The project to follow on from INF107 is now expected to start in July, which is later than originally planned, so the 50 days for this will not be required - it will either not be needed and can be returedn to the ISG Portfolio or moved into 2015/16, depending on the Senior Management response to its recommendations.

There are a number of actions from the INF104 for the programme to progress. These are listed in a dedicated page. https://www.projects.ed.ac.uk/programmepage/30193. The next programme meeting will review and decide if these actions are still required, but we expect them all to close in this year.

System Monitoring Solution - Implementation

Depending on the outcome of the INF107 project, this may be a procurement or an in-house build.

The project effort for this year is 50 days, but this is a multi-year project over three years. It is unlikely we wil sue these 50 days.

This project will start in June, if the recommendations are accepted by management.

Report by Colin Watt for May 2015

Achievements in Last Period

  • Puppet configuration tools were used to build a deployment platform for the Moodle Upgrade project TEL022. However, despite the versions of the software components appearing to be compatible, issues in the dependency tree made it impossible to deliver  a platform without manually compiling components, which is unsustainable for support. This issue is not related to Puppet, but to the components available in RHEL 6 and software collections.
  •  an enhanced pilot Python development environment (Release 3 Milestone), based on Dev Services feedback.
  • PM and Senior Supplier in discussion with Project Sponsor and Business Lead on continuing use of tools to support (and reduce risk to delivery of) the Moodle Upgrade. Final milestone and recommendations to be revised on this basis.

Issues

  • Incompatability of components available in RHEL 6 and Softawre Collections (see above).
  • Ensuring that timelines and resource availability are adjusted to align with revised TEL022 milestones.

Next Steps

  • The release 4 and recommendations milestones need to be revised and rescheduled in line with the revised timeline for TEL022, and agreed with Project Sponsor.
  • Recommendations.
  • Project closure.
