Section One: Programme Commentary, RAG and Resources Update

Overall Programme RAG: GREEN

The current projects remain on course for completion in the year.

There are a number of actions from the INF104 for the programme to progress. These are listed in a dedicated page. https://www.projects.ed.ac.uk/programmepage/30193.

As all the current projects are now in ASTA and resourced, Programme Status is Green.

A contingency of 78 days remains available to the programme, and the recommendation is to keep these in case of need in INF105 and

Depending on the outcome of the INF107 project, this may be a procurement or an in-house build.

The project effort for this year is 50 days, but this is a multi-year project over three years.

This project will start in May.

  • JIRAs raised with ITI Unix regarding TSM configuration

  • Prioritisation of what is to be decommissioned to be carried out by project team

Visit to Imperial now in place, EG have demo'd, Microsoft are going to demo SCOM and we expect to see demos of Zenoss, and newRelic evaluated by late March. So project well on course to have recommendation ready as per current mielstones.

Achievements this period

  • Initial Puppet environment has been built (1st Iteration Milestone) :
  • Progress towards rolling out tnsnames config changes to live environment (2nd Iteration Milestone)
  • PM and Senior Supplier have worked on risk log with team and assigned owners to the project risks.
  • PM and Senior Supplier are regularly reviewing effort against estimates to reduce project risk.
  • PM holding bi-weekly meetings with Senior Supplier to focus on project risks, budget control, and quality of delivery, and Monthly meetings with Senior Supplier and Business Lead to ensure project is progressing to expectations.

Issues

  • Control of budget (PM and Senior supplier reviewing weekly and adjusting effort accordingly)
  • Ensuring Puppet embedded within Production Management (Technology Management attending project meetings and involved in handover and documentation)

 

Next Steps

  • The 2nd release will focus on the deployment of an environment for Python development.
  • Review of milestones, project deliverables, and project timescale.

  • Information gathered on tasks for Bamboo and Jira upgrades based on experience from previous years.
  • Initial discussions with Development Technology, Corporate Services Team and Technology Management to determine which tasks will be in scope for this project.
  • Work started on Brief.
  • Meeting arranged to sign off the Project Brief.
