Section One: Programme Commentary, RAG and Resources Update

With the last project planned for calendar year 2014 now under way, the programme delivery and budget remains good. Only the small project for Annual Upgrade of Development Tools remains to start.

In fact, Programme Manager and Owner need to check that the burn rate on projects and the estimated effort will use up the planned budget - there is an possible opportunity of finding that we have more budget than we need to complete work this year. This wil be clearer by February.

There are a number of actions from the INF104 for the programme to progress. These are listed in a dedicated page. https://www.projects.ed.ac.uk/programmepage/30193

Programme Status is Green.

Annual upgrades of development tools (JIRA, Bamboo, etc)

The Division has built up reliance on a number of key products over the years to assist in project and service delivery.

This project would apply relevant upgrades to the following products as required:

JIRA

JIRA Agile

Bamboo

ASTA

We will look to upgrade to latest stable and supported versions of the products above. This will not review new functionality and only concentrate on software upgrades.

Current feedback is that

There will be no ASTA Upgrade this year

The JIRA upgrades are not required until April.

Bamboo Upgrade will also start in April.

This project will now start in April.

Report by Colin Watt for November 2014

Achievements this period

  • Project website set up.
  • PM has had initial meetings with Project Sponsor, Business Lead, Senior Supplier, and ITI Unix.
  • PM has had a number of follow up meetings with Dev Tech who have already produced some documentation on preffered technical approach and architecture.
  • Project Brief created, subject to consensus by stakeholders and estimation for preferred technical approach.

Issues

  • 05 Dec was initially set as the date for the project brief, but this did not consider knock-on effect of Annual Planning on staff availability.
  • Involvement of ITI Unix is crucial to reaching agreement on the scope of the project and the brief; this was agreed on 11 Nov - but getting input has proved difficult and there has been no engagement with the brief.
  • PICCL submitted to WIS w/c 01 Dec for planning sign-off to be moved to 19 Dec (with agreement of Project Sponsor).

Next Steps

  • escalate ITI engagement issues with Project Sponsor and Business Lead
  • ensure Production Management fully engaged with proposal
  • agree project brief and submit to WIS w/c 15 Dec
