Section One: Programme Commentary, RAG and Resources Update

Programme Manager has also noticed a 12 day discrepancy between the projects' total effort and actual programme budget, so this may reduce the actual overrun to 6 days.

The main risk is to the not started Business Data Recovery proposal.

There are a number of actions from the INF104 for the programme to be aware of. These will be chronicled in a dedicated page.

AP34-041 Business Data Recovery and Storage Implementation

https://www.projects.ed.ac.uk/planning/project/140

This proposal will implement the findings of the review of data recovery and storage requirements for IS Applications as part of a wider review by ITI. The review will have outlined the requirements for storage of business data for disaster recovery/backup, archival and replication purposes. The necessary technical infrastructure will have been provisioned during 12/13 period as a result of the review and this proposal will bring the Applications service under the revised process and facilities.

Tony Weir will be developing the brief. The work is temporarily on hold due to conflicts with other priority work, but Tony has confirmed that it will happen in first half of 2014, and that it will be a procurement followed by an installation. The IS Apps effort involved for each project needs re-estimated. Currently this is a Small budget proposal.

Status of this is now set as RED as there has been no progress from ITI.

Report completed by Stevie Conlon for February 2014

Achievements This Period.

  • APPS dev has now been signed off by all stakeholders, including the Development team heads.
  • APPS TEST has been migrated to the new infrastructure.
  • NEWS TEST testing is in progress.
  • The SMART project (HSS003) has now begun and will deal entirely with the SMART application.

Issues

  • The SMART project will create a new database only for SMART. The creation of a new general APPs database is still to be planned in and agreed.
  • The planned dates for Go-LIVE for APPS conflicts with the pre-marking high volume usage of the 'pcounter'  application. A new date of w/c 7th April has been circulated to the user group for agreement.
  • NEWS TEST testing has not completed and one problem remains to be estimated.

Next Steps

  • Complete testing in NEWS TEST and Achieve ASOR for NEWS.
  • Migrate NEWS LIVE
  • Continue testing APPS TEST.

The project is marked as RED as dates for go-live on NEWS and APPS are still unclear and budget may need to be revisited.

Programme Manager : budget is overrun and there looks to be substantial unplanned effort needed to resolve UAT issues. Programme Manager is looking to handover project to new project manager soon as possible so new PM can get a good handover from Steve and replan the UAT and Delivery and manage the budget issue.

Programme Manager has asked to meet the team on Monday 10th March, and has asked for all Jiras to have been updated/closed by then, all off-the-piste issues raised as Jiras, and effort for all outstanding fixes estimated. Also that users for APPS and NEWS both be updated by PM as to cancellation of delivery.

Development Tool Upgrades

Withdrawn on 30/8/13.

https://www.projects.ed.ac.uk/planning/project/141

This was due to impact on programme budget from carry over 12/13 projects.

However, we hope to be able to bring the project back into the 13/14 programme if budget, priority and new estimates allow.

The Division has built up reliance on a number of key products over the years to assist in project and service delivery.

This project would apply relevant upgrades to the following products:

JIRA

JIRA has fallen a few version behind latest version, so it may be this upgrade is required. Whether a proejct is required remain to be re-assessed.

Greenhopper

This is a small task to be done under APP004

Bamboo

This is a small task that should be covered by current Support arrangements.
