Section One: Programme Commentary, RAG and Resources Update

The Development Tools was withdrawn to balance the programme budget, allowing the completion of the carry over projects. We will review the estimates and the requirements for the withdrawn Development Tools Upgrade in October to see if there is a possibility for bringing back this proposal into 13/14.

The main risk to the programme is the increased estimate for ITS103 (from 50 to almost 150 days), which cannot complete even with the withdrawal of AP34-041 Business Data Recovery project, which itself now is at severe risk.

Programme Owner will work with Programme Manager to resolve budget issues and clarify the situation of started, pending and withddrawn projects by end of October.

AP34-041 Business Data Recovery and Storage Implementation

https://www.projects.ed.ac.uk/planning/project/140

This proposal will implement the findings of the review of data recovery and storage requirements for IS Applications as part of a wider review by ITI. The review will have outlined the requirements for storage of business data for disaster recovery/backup, archival and replication purposes. The necessary technical infrastructure will have been provisioned during 12/13 period as a result of the review and this proposal will bring the Applications service under the revised process and facilities.

Tony Weir will be developing the brief for the end of October.

Small project.

Status isRED as the budget required to complete ITS103 would mean we have no budget for further work this year.

Report completed by Adam Wadee for September 2013

Achievements in Last Period

  • Several meetings have taken place to agree the scope and objectives of the project.  The aim of the project is to evaluate the current applications infrastructure and provide recommendations on the strategy for application tier implementations moving forward, to ensure services operate on a more up to date, supportable infrastructure.  The project will not implement the migrations - these will be done by future projects in 14/15.
  • The project brief has been drafted, but requires sign off from key stakeholder groups in IS.
  • The evaluation will take place over October and November 2013 to allow business areas to plan for application migrations as part of the 14/15 Annual Planning exercise.

Issues

  • Planning milestone revised.

Next Steps

  • Further meetings with key stakeholders to agree the project scope and estimates.
  • Project Brief sign off.

Development Tool Upgrades

Withdrawn on 30/8/13.

https://www.projects.ed.ac.uk/planning/project/141

This was due to impact on programme budget from carry over 12/13 projects.

However, we hope to be able to bring the project pack into the 13/14 programme if budget, priority and new estimates allow.

The Division has built up reliance on a number of key products over the years to assist in project and service delivery.

This project would apply relevant upgrades to the following products:

JIRA

Greenhopper

Bamboo
