Section One: Programme Commentary, RAG and Resources Update

Work has been on-going with regards the projects carried over from 11/12, in that

  1. ITS088 - SAN Replacment Procurement has been closed
  2. ITS089 - Windows 7 managed Desktop is all but complete with the project closure meeting scheduled for 13th September
  3. ITS076 - ColdFusion 9 Upgrade for EVES has been deployed to the live production environment on 6th September and it is anticipated that the project will closed within the month

There is however a concern regarding ITS095 - SOA Upgrade as this project is still suspended due to lack of Development resource. Any delays in this project will have a serious impact on subsequent in-year projects looking to either undertake a SOA Upgrade or utilise SOA

Due to the unplanned carry -over from 11/12, the programme budget is currently in deficit and it is currently not possible to complete the programme for 12/13 with the current budget.  It is currently envisaged that the time scale for the project for the Sotware Licences and Agreements mananagement may require to be extended through into 12/13.  This will be discussed with the programme owner at the next programme meeting.

Plan

Resulting from a meeting held with IS Apps and ITI Unix, it has become apparent that  one of the benefits of the recent SAN Procurement project is that the existing data stored on the 9985 disks will be able to be migrated onto the new SAN infrasatructure through mirroring whilst the application continues to function. As a result it is anticipated that this will be a shorter project than initially anticipated at the annual planning stage.

Once the initial process has been tested, the main objective of the project will be to plan and coordinate the data migration with the various business areas and the technical teams.

The progarmme manager will further discuss planning at the programme meeting with the programme and portfolio managers

Dependencies

Whilst there are no specific dependancies on this project, the technical view is that it would be preferable to migrate the data to the new SAN prior to the new database tier becoming operational

Report by David Watters for August 2012

Achievements in Last Period

 During this period,

  1. As a result of a series of meetings the project brief has been produced and circulated
  2. An initial top level project plan has been created
  3. An estimation meeting has been held and circulated to the members of the project team

Issues

During the estimation process a number of questions have arisen regarding the patching strategy requirements / deliverables within the project..  Due to holidays and diary conflicts it has been possible to clarify these matters with the project sponsor and as aresult, the planning phase has been unexpectedly delayed.   A meeting has now been arranged for Friday 7th September.

Next Steps

  1. Complete and sign-off the brief and any revised estimate
  2. Prepare a more detailed project plan
