The University Prepares for UCAS Clearing

The Clearing 2019 (USG013) project is supporting Student Recruitment and Admissions and the College UG Admissions Offices entering UCAS clearing again this year. Places are available to prospective students who have not yet secured a place at university, or who have a place at another university but wish to apply with Edinburgh University. This year Clearing is also merging with Embargo in order to improve Student Experience while providing an easier process.

Scottish Clearing is on Tuesday 6th August and is open to applicants from the least affluent 20 per cent of postcodes in Scotland – defined using the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD20). The places are also open to those who do not live within SIMD20 areas, but have spent time in local authority care.

Final preparations are well underway with one of the tools developed being a postcode checker which has been rolled out and embedded into information for prospective students can view in advance of the event - https://edin.ac/scottish-clearing

The call center to handle the 3,000+ calls expected over the two events is being set up in Argyle House this year.  Potential students are passed from the call center to the teams set up and ready in the Colleges to progress applications.  Over 60 staff are involved in handling or supporting this process across Admissions Teams, Colleges and IS.
