Section One: Programme Commentary, RAG and Resources Update

Commentary

The STU programme is AMBER  as  two of the projects are AMBER.

STU contingency has been reduced for 2018-19 as 24 days contingency has been re-allocated to STU263 to cover the additional effort for the Records Management options appraisal

Overall the burn-rate of IS Apps spend across the STU projects for the first 4 months of 18-19 is slightly under the budget.

Report by Geoff Cropley for October 2018

Achievements this period

A revised design and proof of concept using alternative products is underway.  Delivery is subject to developer changes to the search display application expected at the end of November.

Development Services resource have confirmed that in the event that changes are required to the search widget, these could be accommodated during November.

With the data challanges with Pure profiles and the inconsistencies across Schools EdWeb profiles,  the search results currently returned are profiles showing academic areas of expertise rather than Pd.D specifics.  Until data quality and API capability are proven search results are an overestimated guess of academics that may or may not be willing to supervise. These results are not be suitable for a prospective student journey. Until there is a fit for purpose staff database there would be not appetite to deploy the search tool at this time.

Student Recruitment  are not in a position to drive data and standards development across the schools and are very much on the periphery of being able to influence change in this area.  Profile guidance is owned by the schools and this differs widely across the schools.  This coupled with the fact that different process for dealing with Ph.D enquiries makes it difficult to agree, across the university any consistent process or guidance at this time.

To keep the momentum going the project would like to understand what developments have taken place in this space within Service Excellence Programme.

This project also has synergies  with emerging developments in EDWeb and its wider adoption and a view of that roadmap needs to be factored into the development of this service.

Issues

  • None

Next steps

  • Complete the proof of concept build using alternative search products
  • Engage with Service Excellence to understand developments in this space

STU260 CAM  Degree Finders - Options Appraisal

Category:  Compliance

Milestones:

30-Nov 2018 End of Planning

RAG Status:

GREEN

Report by Jamie Thin for Oct 2018

Achievements this period

  • IS estimation meeting held to scope out and size the work to strengthen security of UG & PG Degree finder applications

Issues

  • Dependency on STU264 - the urgent small enhancements to the UG & PG degree finder should be delivered first via STU264, then the security work can be delivered after STU264 goes LIVE
  • Dependency on SEP SAS PCIM analysis & SRA analysis - the future PCIM / SRA Website solution may not provide a complete end-to-end solution for CAM for all marketing data associated to Programmes.
    • STU260 should attempt to understand the potential size of any gap , so that Service owner (CAM) can make a bid for additional funding / submit business case to SEP for another future project
    • initial response with answers to STU260 questions received from Emma Rowson (SEP)

Next Steps

  • Agree how to deliver the  security strengthening work for both the UG & PG applications
    • initial estimates are that the work is relatively small , so it is recommended that it is delivered as a work package within STU260 rather then spinning up a separate project to do the security work
    • make bookings with the S/W dev team to start after STU264 has gone live
