Infrastructure Discussion

On 3 October 2012 a meeting was held with Iain Fiddes (Dev Tech), Riky Harris (Dev Tech), David Smyth (Production Management), Maurice Franceschi (Project Services) and Craig Middlemass (Project Services) to discuss the servers and set up that the ECA portal should be migrated based on what each architecture offers in terms of performance, ease of migration, resilience / recovery and maintenance.

The outcome of the meeting was to continue to use the same technology that the ECA portal is operating on Cold Fusion and SQL Server but to upgrade and move it to new infrastructure being introduced for the PSO and Printing projects.  The new infrastructure is better than what is available currently and has as good a chance of maintaining performance as moving to Oracle.

The project will be replanned based on moving to this architecture which will reduce the cost of migration but will incur a slight increase to facility the build on the new infrastructure as some of the new infrastructure has not been set up on both server sites (Kings Buildings - KB) and Appleton Tower (AT).
